Bitmaker Labs students visited our office for another superb lunch-and-learn

Last November, we hosted a development workshop for 35 Bitmaker Labs students—and we had so much fun that we decided to do it again!

On Tuesday, February 24th a new cohort of Bitmaker Labs students joined us in our downtown office to learn about our methodologies, development strategies, and best practices. Rhys, our marketing manager, took the helm in giving a short company overview and introduced the students to what it’s like working for a technical development firm. Like last time, the students grabbed some delicious sub sandwiches before getting cozy with our devs—Michael, Trishan, Grant, and Andrew—who graciously resumed their roles leading the workshops.

Michael and Trishan delivered hilarious demos, focusing on the importance of properly gathering business requirements. Using a combination of made up scenarios and real project examples, the duo demonstrated why it’s important to think critically about feature sets to effectively manage versioning and scope creep. The enterprise workshop gave the Bitmaker Labs students a real-world look at what it’s like developing a range of different client projects, as well as tips on managing development obstacles they might encounter along the way.

Grant and Andrew’s front-end workshop demonstrated modern best practices for HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript, with a special focus on helpful tools to make developer life easier. Analyzing a recent 3PT project, the devs discussed Photoshop designs, frameworks, tools, tactics, and timesavers. The lucky Bitmakers were also given exclusive access to Grant’s incredible list of helpful front end development tips, which was personally delivered straight to their inbox as a PDF.

Another big thanks to Bitmaker Labs!
