Turbine

Turbine is an innovative suite of tools bundled as a SaaS offering to deliver Industry 4.0 productivity to the SMB manufacturer. A turbine is defined as a device that is powered by a flow of energy and used to produce thrust. The product defined in this case study has a similar nature. The factory floor is powered by good people making quality products. The Turbine suite of products works with those people and produces powerful results.

Challenge and Goals

Automation is often seen as a threat to job security. In stead, it should be seen as a tool that helps people get their jobs done faster, more easily, and with a higher level of quality.

The following goals will be met by the new Turbine SaaS Suite:

  • Improve inventory turns .
  • Accurately measure real-time production line efficiency .
  • Motivate employees to measure and improve their performance .
  • Eliminate the need for manual throughput tracking and human error.

Solution

CONTROL PANEL

The back-end administration portal allows administrators to manage users, reset passwords, manage data, observe usage and analytics, and perform a variety of other routine tasks.

One of the greatest benefits of the new platform is staff empowerment. It is in everyone’s best interests to ensure that we deliver a self – sustainable solution that can be managed in perpetuity by employees without needing to engage a technical developme nt team each time a change is needed.

COGNITIVE COMPUTER VISION

The Turbine Alert video intelligence system is capable of monitoring video in near real – time to analyze people, objects, and motion. The system is designed to hone in on factory lines, managed by bounding boxes configured by the floor supervisor.

Objects moving down the line are tracked indi vidually and converted into analytics and counters that feed directly back to the business dashboards in real – time.

The system is intelligent enough to distinguish between trackable packaged products and ignores untracked objects based on visual anchors th at are configured by the operator when setting up the line.

The camera simply needs to be calibrated at the correct angle when setting up the line so that it has visibility of the visual anchors as the products move down the line. In some advanced cases, multiple cameras can be set up to increase accuracy if a single camera angle is not enough to view all products. The cameras then communicate between each other to share information while tracking the same products.

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE DASHBOARD

The live productivity dashboard tracks key metrics each day and aggregate productivity information over longer periods of time. Productivity can be reviewed daily, week to date, month to date, quarterly, or annually.

Specific product lines can be analyzed over time to compare current productivity levels with past levels regardless of the physical locations of the lines. These details can help identify maximum throughput, peak throughput, line acceleration time, and downtime analysis.
